Well then. Today was officially the best day in the history of EVER!
I don’t have enough face to contain my smile right now….
I was bullied in elementary school. By a teacher.
I’m sure some of you have heard me talk about it before, but I’ve picked up a couple of new followers who haven’t.
From second grade to the middle of sixth, I was relentlessly bullied by my music teacher. It didn’t matter how many times my mother spoke with the principal or how many times he was reprimanded. He seemed to make it his goal in life to ruin the self-esteem of a nine-year-old and often said things to me just to make me cry. There was one occasion where he got right up in my face and threatened to “nail [me] to the wall” if I spoke again during small group practice of “America The Beautiful.” I hadn’t said a word.
There were days when I would either fake being sick or actually make myself sick to avoid the half-hour of class with him.
He was fired the year after I moved. I found his address a little while ago and I’m sorely tempted to ask him what the hell he was thinking, treating me and several other students like that. We were just children. He was an adult. A teacher. Who would believe a kid over a teacher?
Thankfully, my parents.
But the advice I got wasn’t the most ideal. I was told to laugh. To take away his power over me by laughing instead of crying. But he was much bigger than me (something he delighted in pointing out—I was a tiny child) and very intimidating. While I couldn’t laugh, I could at least pretend I wasn’t in the room. I wanted nothing to do with music after that experience.
Tim Bowser, you should be ashamed of yourself. And if you aren’t, you’re a monster. It’s that simple. Don’t bully children. Don’t bully anyone.
